● Jeonbuk’s urgent need to prioritize express logistics

○ Despite an increase in express cargo volumes generated through Korea-China sea routes and the Gunsan Customs Express Logistics Center, there is significant room for improvement in Jeonbuk State’s readiness to function as a logistics hub and create a virtuous cycle across relevant industries.

○ To effectively outcompete other regions and establish itself as a leading express logistics hub, Jeonbuk must secure its competitive edge by implementing complex logistics systems in conjunction with the proposed Saemangeum International Airport while also employing autonomous logistics technologies and introducing high-value-added logistics services.

● Jeonbuk’s roadmaps to enhancing its express logistics competitiveness

○ By capitalizing on its exclusive status as the only Sino-Korean express logistics center outside the Seoul Metropolitan Area and its strategic location in the central West Sea region, Jeonbuk has enormous potential to grow into a complex logistics hub.

○ The expansion of cross-border e-commerce markets and acceleration of China’s exports will translate into further business opportunities in the express logistics industry, thus helping Jeonbuk State take full advantage of the Saemangeum triport toward reinforcing its global logistics competitiveness.

○ The relevant local government players are advised to solidify Jeonbuk’s position as a promising independent hub for express logistics through the following action plans: improving relevant infrastructure, attracting global companies, expanding public–private collaboration, and developing phased business models.

● Essential tasks required to facilitate Jeonbuk State’s growth into an express logistics hub

○ Jeonbuk State has untapped potential to emerge as a key express logistics hub in the nation’s central region, the preconditions for which include establishing complex sea and air infrastructure, optimizing the Gunsan-Shidao ferry route, and embracing smart logistics technologies.

○ Additionally, it is necessary to strengthen synergistic linkages with the Saemangeum triport infrastructure and secure sustainable competitive advantages by expanding and stabilizing express cargo volumes.

● Expected effects of Jeonbuk State’s endeavors toward becoming an express logistics hub

○ The attempt to become a logistics hub in the central region will produce positive ripples such as the expansion of the express cargo industry, the introduction of smart eco-friendly logistics, and the establishment of a cross-border e-commerce hub

○ Other expected benefits include the revitalization of local economies driven by the Saemangeum triport infrastructure; the promotion of innovation in Korea’s logistics industry; and balanced regional development through the expansion of global logistics networks.
