○ This study was conducted to collect basic data related to the establishment of the Later Baekje Historical and Cultural Area under the Historical and Cultural Area Maintenance Act, which has recently become an important agenda in Jeollabuk-do, and to explore ways to revitalize them.

○ The Historical and Cultural Area Maintenance Act was introduced due to the need to ensure integrated and macro-level preservation and management of cultural assets and the historical and cultural environment by introducing the notion of “historical and cultural area” in the “myeon” (administrative area)  unit to address the limits of cultural asset preservation using an individual-location unit level.

○ The December 2022 amendment established the Later Baekje Historical and Cultural Area, which includes Jeonbuk, and is the cornerstone for the future utilization of historical and cultural resources in Jeonbuk. In order to revitalize the utilization of Later Baekje historical and cultural resources, this study first examined the current status and utilization of historical and cultural resources related to Later Baekje.

○ This revealed that “Later Baekje” is not recognized by the public as a distinct entity, but as a background for the “Later Three Kingdoms” or the “Founding of Goryeo.” Similar trends were found in the analysis of research outcomes and social perception survey and analysis.

○ In particular, the “lack of research personnel related to Later Baekje” identified from the analysis of research outcomes will be the first target to overcome in preparing a plan to revitalize Later Baekje.

○ The social perception survey and analysis also found no “Later Baekje-centered content.” Therefore, this study proposes a plan to revitalize Later Baekje centered on the following vision and goals.

○ “Vision: Developing into the hub in the Central Region’s historical and cultural area through the revitalization of Later Baekje,” and “Goals: Fostering research and revitalization personnel related to Later Baekje; raising public awareness of Later Baekje historical and cultural area; securing competitiveness by building a linked historical and cultural area.”
